Our final meeting of the season is to take place next Thursday June 28th and we will resume our meeting on Thursday September 6th. However all is not lost for those eager snappers as there is to be one outing to the Animal Magic Sanctuary in July.
At next Thursday’s meeting we will have an Open Competition with a €5 entry fee as usual and a cash prize for the top 3 spots. Dillon Boyer has won the Photographer of the Year by a substantial winning margin and I wholeheartedly congratulate him on his victory.
We are hoping to visit the Animal Magic Wildlife Sanctuary on Sunday July 8th arriving around 1pm and staying until 3.30 or 4pm. The sanctuary is located in Killmallock, County Limerick and it puts on Falconry Displays and static displays with Hawks and Owls. Other camera clubs who have visited have high recommended the experience.
This brings me to some tips gleamed from the Digital Photography School for photographing birds.
1. Photography them in direct sunlight.
a. This permits higher shutter speeds and freezes the action.
2. Wait patiently for them to fly to you.
a. If you get too close they will fly away.
b. Stay calm and no sudden moves and they will get closer to you.
3. Set up continuous shooting.
a. This permits you to take lots of shots and thereby increasing your chances of getting a good one.
4. Focus on their eyes.
a. Having the eyes in sharp focus gives a better and more pleasing shot.

Remember that we always welcome new members and guests to the club which has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, no need to have a fancy camera, come along and learn how to take better pictures.
