The club is going from strength to strength at our last meeting on the 13th of October we had 25 people in attendance and at least one third of those were new members. At that meeting we introduced a new voting system that streamlined the existing cumbersome and time consuming method in use for judging photos. This was introduced after Francis Foley and Peter O'Donnell visited the Killarney club to see how they operated their competitions.
The new and growing membership base has brought about further changes to the club. The extra finances available has allowed the club to invest in a state of the art projector and screen. From our next meeting scheduled for October 27th onwards we will use the projector to show competition images, this will save on tbe expense of printing photos. However this change will also bring about another change in that photos will have to be emailed to the competition secretary ([email protected]) two days prior to the meeting taking place.
The projector will also allow the club to present slide shows of their photographic work and also allow us to present videos of tips and techniques to further members skills. Autumn is the theme for meeting of the 27th and to that end the club are organising an outing to the Killarney woodland areas. The timing of visit is not finalised yet but the club secretary will be in email contact with the members in good time, inn any event the outing is dependent on the weather and the forecast for this weekend is not looking good.
Steve Baker won the competition at our last meeting for which the theme was “Vase of Flowers”, the standard of the all the shots was very high and there was very little difference between the top marks and bottom marks. In second place we had one of newest members Tommy Toomey and the old stager Dillon Boyer came in the third spot.
This weeks tips are for taking portrait using natural light. Firstly, try not to have bright sunlight on the face of your subject, secondly use shade such as trees or buildings to shape the light around your subject. Thirdly you should use light coloured walls to direct light onto your subject to highlight hair and enhance the silhouette. Place your subject so that you minimise unattractive shadows especially around the eyes and nose and finally place your camera in Aperture Priority mode so that you can control the depth of field and the camera will take care of the rest of the settings.
For further information contact Francis Foley on 087 905 4161 or [email protected] or visit our website at http://ardfertcameraclub.weebly.com. Remember that we always welcome new members and guests to the club which has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, no need to have a fancy camera, come along and learn how to take better pictures.
