The club held its AGM this Thursday the 28th of September, at this we elected officers for the coming year and discussed any other business. To round off the night we spent an hour on a workshop on the subject of composition and what makes a good photograph.
The first half of the meeting was taken up by the AGM, it begun with an address from the Chairman Steve Baker and then we heard reports from the officers. Francis Foley the secretary delivered his report on the status of club and detailed some of the plans for the coming year. The Financial Report was given by Paul Keeling and we are very happy to report that our bank balance is very healthy and that very soon we will be able to proceed with our plans to purchase some studio lighting gear.
After this we proceeded with the election of officers and after some discussions and a proposal by James O’Loughlin it was decided to propose that the present committee be re-elected in block this was seconded by Ian Wiley and carried unanimously. The present secretary Francis Foley recommended that an additional committee member be brought on board; this position is to be known as the Competitions Secretary. The Chairman asked the floor for a show of interest after the duties of the position were explained and Miriam Heylin volunteered to take on this role. Therefore the Ardfert Camera Club Committee for 2012/2013 is:
Chairman Steve Baker
Secretary\PR Francis Foley
Treasurer Paul Keeling
Competitions Secretary Miriam Heylin
In the Any Other Business section there was a proposal from the floor to split the competitions into two categories Novice and Advanced and this was carried. The basis for inclusion of members into their respective categories will be last year table in the Photographer of the Year but the final say will rest with the club committee. Each year members will be able to move between the levels with at least the top and bottom two moving. It was also decided that each competition will have a strict closing date of 1 week before the event and that a title for the picture must be given that will be read out at the time the picture is being displayed in the competition.
The final section of the meeting was run by Dillon Boyer and he concentrated on photography composition and also lighting. The rule of thirds is a fundamental aspect of composition and he brought along a huge number of breath-taking shots from his collection that excelled in highlighting good composition and lighting.
Francis Foley will hold a short workshop dealing with Aperture Settings; this will be held weather permitting in the Town Park in Tralee at 2 pm. We meet at the fountain in the Rose Garden and don’t forget to bring along your tripod if you have one.
Our next meeting is scheduled for October 11th, at this meeting we will have a workshop on Shutter Speed and explain also how to email your pictures to the Competition Secretary. For further information visit our website at http://ardfertcameraclub.weebly.com
